With a dazzling repertoire of performing arts – symphony, ballet, opera, theater and outdoor concerts have an established presence in Triangle culture. Home to North Carolina Symphony, the Progress Energy’s Center for Performing Arts is one of the finest performing arts facilities in the Southeast. The nationally acclaimed Carolina Ballet, North Carolina Theater and Broadway Series South are among the larger venues, complimented by smaller galleries and independent performances. A walk through downtown Raleigh on the First Friday of every month illustrates the remarkable scope and scale of the arts in this city. Chapel Hill’s celebration of the arts is on the Second Friday of every month and they also host a spectacular annual festival filled with art, cultural dance and street performances. Held in the historic Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the Bull Durham Blues Festival features national, regional and local blues players. Always in the first week of September, this event has become North Carolina’s largest celebration of the blues, attracting fans from over 175 North Carolina cities, 25 states, and 5 countries. For many outdoor concerts the Alltel Pavilion at Walnut Creek comfortably accommodates thousands while cozier outdoor concerts and events are often hosted by the areas museums and little theaters.
